Remaking the Wild Episode Four - East London Waterworks Park

East London Waterworks Park

East London Waterworks Park is an idea with bold roots. With a lack of nature based spaces available in the area for people to enjoy and cherish, a group of volunteers from East London came together in 2019 with the idea to buy and transform over 5 hectares of land which functioned as a Thames Water Depot and turn it into a 'brownfield' rainforest site.

Their vision is to create a space with activities such as wild swimming in Victorian filter beds, but also a space that works to improve physical and mental wellbeing as well as increasing the biodiversity of the area.

This project is different from many of the rewilding projects that are currently happening in the United Kingdom - as it showcases a community led approach to land ownership, demonstrates just what is possible and will transform the way we think about the green spaces around us.

East London Waterworks Park is currently undergoing their initial Crowdfunder for this project, which you can donate to here.
