Safe Haven tells the story of how natural spaces have become a lifeline for people following the lockdowns spanning 2020 and 2021.
With rigid limits on the spaces people were able to access, many people developed a fresh and unrivalled passion for their local green spaces. It became clear just how important access to nature is for so many people, with their local spaces providing safe havens for the physical and mental wellness.
Following six people from around the United Kingdom with completely different spaces to show you and stories to tell, Safe Haven illustrates how many of the spaces included are either run down, underfunded or under threat, with many being propped up by volunteers for their upkeep. In conjunction with the importance of a range of rich, diverse natural spaces being integral to biodiversity, the United Kingdom has now left the EU which could put environmental protection and people’s health at risk.
