A Different Path

A Different Path

Follow the story of Adventure 999, a support group that helps emergency service workers discover the benefits of adventure for mental health.

Meet Jamie and Natalie Ironmonger, who over the years have both been shaped by their demanding careers working within the Emergency Services. They are by no way unique in their experiences, as anyone working on the frontline can appreciate the huge toll it can take.

Having experienced the positive life changing impact that challenging yourself in the outdoors can have, they moved forwards with passion and purpose to help others who may have become overwhelmed by their jobs.

Statistically, people working in the Emergency Services are much more likely to experience stress related mental health problems including PTSD as a result of being exposed to repetitive emotional trauma throughout their careers.

Sadly, it is not uncommon for them to lose colleagues to suicide. Sometimes it’s the people who go above and beyond to help others, who find it hardest to reach out for help.

Jamie and Natalie started Adventure 999 as a way to build a strong community of support with the very people who truly understand what being in the Emergency Services means. With over two thousand members, Adventure 999 provides a valuable support network through which walks, outdoor events and expeditions are organised.

From Snowdon to Everest Base camp, they have one aim – to create a different path for those struggling with their mental health. Find our more here.
